7th Annual “Back the Blue” Caravan – May 13–15, 2025

We’re proud to announce that the Western Sussex Concerned Citizens PAC will be participating in the 7th Annual “Back the Blue” Caravan — a heartfelt, county-wide tribute to the brave men and women of law enforcement who serve and protect our communities every day.

We encourage all residents to take part in this powerful show of support. Whether you join for one stop or ride along the entire route, your presence matters.

What is the "Back the Blue" Caravan?

Started by Drew Sunderlin — whose son, Capt. Jonathan Sunderlin, serves as Commanding Officer of Troop K, Philadelphia — the "Back the Blue" Caravan is a grassroots, people-powered thank-you note on wheels.

It’s a chance for citizens across Sussex County to express sincere appreciation to our local police departments — face-to-face and heart-to-heart.

7th Annual “Back the Blue” Caravan – May 13–15, 2025

This year’s event runs over three days, honoring different departments along major Sussex County routes:

  • Tuesday, May 13 – Rt. 1 Caravan

    • Honoring: Fenwick Island, South Bethany, Bethany Beach, Ocean View, Dewey Beach, Rehoboth Beach, Troop 7, Lewes, and Milton

  • Wednesday, May 14 – Rt. 113 Caravan

    • Honoring: Selbyville, Frankford, Dagsboro, Millsboro, Troop 4, Probation & Parole, Georgetown, and Ellendale

  • Thursday, May 15 – Rt. 13 Caravan

    • Honoring: Delmar, Laurel, Seaford, Bridgeville, Blades, Troop 5, and Greenwood

Each Caravan begins at 10:00 AM and runs through midday, wrapping up between 12 Noon and 1:00 PM, depending on the number of stops.

🎉 Prizes, Purpose, and Patriotism

Every participant is encouraged to:

  • Decorate their vehicle

  • Bring sealed snack donations

  • Deliver handwritten thank-you notes to each department along the route

A prize will be awarded each day for the best-decorated car, based on votes by the law enforcement honorees at each stop. Make it meaningful, creative, and fun!

This is about more than just driving — it’s about driving change, appreciation, and unity.

🙌 Why It Matters

The "Back the Blue" Caravan falls during National Police Week, established in 1962 by President Kennedy to honor the sacrifice and service of law enforcement officers nationwide. It’s a time to remember those we’ve lost and thank those who still stand on the line each day.

In times of challenge and uncertainty, a small act of gratitude can mean the world. Let’s flood our streets with support, appreciation, and community spirit.

🚗 Want to Join?

We invite everyone in Western Sussex and beyond to join us! Whether you decorate your car, wave from the sidelines, or ride along to hand out snacks and thanks, you’ll be part of something truly special.
